Helmets arrive

Well 2 motorbike helmets arrived this week - full face and very sporty as well very heavy. We are not sure if they are big enough as we both had a real struggle to get them on - and off. We will try and find an expereienced biker that can give us some advice.
We have been reading up on the Skills for Working in Development course - affectionately known by VSO as SKWIDS course. We also need to find out lots of information about Uganda as part of our pre-course task. We go to Harbourne Hall on Friday and the course starts with a half day on health and safety. We hope to find out the situation about water as we canot afford to use bottled water all the time.
We are also looking forward to meeting some more VSOers and being inspired by such a great bunch of people.
Geoff''s job was advertised on Friday and the first person rung up by 4.30pm in the afternoon.
We cleared up the garage this morning so it is ready for the children to move in and know where everthing is. Sabrina then went on to clean out the cupboard under the stairs. We feel quite pleased with our efforts today.

The adventure starts

Well we've been accepted by VSO, we've done the preparing to volunteer course, we've told our employers and our family and friends so we can start the blog. We are sending lots of paperwork to VSO to sort out visas and work permits, and we've actually got our placements - we will be going to Kamwenge in Western Uganda. Sabrina will be setting up a health promotion scheme with schools and I will be a school improvement adviser. We are really excited about the prospect of being there, but daunted by the arranging we have to do before we leave. We have to do motorbike training and skills for working in development before we go together with sorting out the house arrangements and seeing everyone.

More about that later. Now we're putting the Christmas decorations away for 2 years. Quite sad really, although we may sneak some of the smaller ones into our case for the first Christmas away!!
